How to OVERCOME the Spirit of FEAR!!!

Why Most of What You Worry About Won’t Even Happen

I just read something that had me floored, and I had to share it. A study found that 85% of the things people worry about never actually happen. Let that sink in for a second. Imagine all the stress, all the overthinking, and sleepless nights for things that won’t even come true.

And even when things do happen, a big chunk of people realized they handled it way better than they expected—or learned something valuable from it. That means that 97% of what we worry about is basically wasted energy. Y'all, that hit hard. This just proved what the Bible says about worry.

Our brains sometimes just punish us with made-up fears and anxieties. It’s like our mind is subconsciously exaggerating everything, trying to hold us back to protect us from perceived dangers ahead.

But God’s got a message for us about this.

Fear Isn't from God—So What Is It?

Let’s get one thing clear: fear isn’t from God. In 2 Timothy 1:7, the Bible says, “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

That means if you’re feeling fear, it’s not coming from God—it’s coming from a negative force, something trying to stop you from stepping out and doing what God has called you to do. This force knows what it’s doing, too.

Fear is trying to press down on you, to keep you from moving into the life God’s mapped out for you.

Just the other day, I was praying with a friend about this exact thing. We were praying against the spirit of fear, warring in the spirit.

Then God led me to dig deeper, to understand where fear actually comes from and what the Bible has to say about it.

What the Bible Says About Fear and Cowardice

In Revelation 21:7-8, I came across something powerful. It says, “He who overcomes shall inherit all things...But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable...shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Hold up. So, if you’re living in fear—if you’re a coward—you have your own spot in hell? That was a major wake-up call for me.

When we give in to fear and let it control our lives, we’re basically allowing a spirit that’s not from God to dictate our decisions.

Fear is sneaky, and it knows that if it can keep us stuck, we’ll miss out on God’s promises. We’ll miss out on stepping into our purpose and being who God has called us to be.

The Power of God's Promises in Overcoming Fear

If 85% of what we worry about doesn’t happen, and even the stuff that does happen ends up being manageable, then why are we so stuck on fear?

Let’s remember who God is. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

So even if your worst fear actually came true, God promises to be right there with you. You’re not facing it alone.

For me, facing fear used to be a big challenge. Something that helped me was writing down my fears and then looking up Bible verses that countered those fears. If I was scared of failing, I’d write out Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

When you line up your fears against God’s Word, you see just how powerless those fears are.

Reprogramming Your Mind with God’s Word

I strongly encourage you to try this: write down everything you’re afraid of. Then, beside each fear, write what God says about it.

This gets those fears out of your mind and onto paper where you can see them clearly—and see what God has to say in response. You’re turning the battle from a mental fight into a spiritual one, where God’s Word is your weapon.

And if you want to go further, record yourself reading these Bible verses. Use your phone, record yourself saying each verse, and play it back regularly. This isn’t just a positive mindset exercise; it’s spiritual warfare.

When you repeatedly hear and speak God’s promises, it shifts your perspective. God’s promises start becoming louder than the voice of fear.

Fear Has No Place in Your Life

I’m sharing this because I don’t want you missing out on your purpose, held back by fear. Revelation 21:8 is clear on what fear can do if we let it win. Fear of people’s opinions, fear of rejection—whatever it is, we’re not called to live that way.

God has commanded us to be bold. In Joshua 1:9, He says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” That’s a commandment, not a suggestion.

A Practical Step to Build Boldness

So here’s my practical advice for you. Whenever fear creeps in, remember Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you.”

Write down every worry, line it up with Scripture, and say it out loud. If you feel like it, record yourself reading these promises and play it back. Over time, these truths will become part of you, sinking into your subconscious. You’ll start feeling God’s courage rising up in you.

Don’t let fear dictate your life. Step into the abundant life that Jesus promised. He didn’t come and die for you to stay in a corner, afraid to move forward. He came so you could live fully, boldly, and courageously. So when fear tries to push you back, let God’s Word push you forward.

Remember fear isn’t your story, FAITH is.

I hope this message blesses you! Fear is just noise, and it has no real power over you when God is with you.
